Description

The 2021 Mazzini Shiraz is harvested from 3 vineyards in the Moorabool Valley, in the Geelong wine region. Moorabool Ridge, Strathmore & Parklands. Fermented in small open top pots with the use of wild yeast, then pressed to barrel for malolactic fermentation and matured in French oak for 9 months.

Don’t take our word for it…

“Mazzini Shiraz, for whatever reason, seem to put me in mind of Xinomavro. No bad thing; just a comment.
Sun dried tomato, dried herb, spice, baked red fruits. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and distinctly savoury, all these dried fruit and tomato flavours, a slight bitterness, grainy tannin, and a tangy finish of solid length. A bit different, but good in that way”

Gary Walsh from The Wine Front – 2020 Shiraz 92 points

“Blackberry, sour cherry, almond biscotti, spice and herb strewn meat. Fleshy, juicy sweet and sour cherry, packed with silty tannin, tomato paste, black olive and herb, has something of an antipasto deliciousness, supple feel, and a tangy finish of good length, with plenty of tannin to close. Quite different, but has charisma and savoury appeal”

“Hand-picked. 10% new French oak. 82 dozen produced. Rowsley Fault Vineyard, Moorabool Valley. As an aside, I noted a certain Xinomavro-like character in the previous release, and here it is again.

Spice, boot polish, sun-dried tomato, black fruit, some liquorice/mint. It’s a deep and earthy style, but only medium-bodied, blackberry and tomato, a smattering of olives rolled in dried herb, a sappy tang to acidity, and fine lightly drying chalky tannin. A lot of savoury appeal here, which I like.”

Gary Walsh from The Wine Front – 2018 Shiraz 90 points

“There’s no doubt about where it’s from; it’s so Geelong-y. Dark cherry, boot polish, pepper and sun dried tomato. Fleshy but only medium-bodied, savoury and spicy, but with sweetness of ripe tomato and blackberry, soft fine tannin, some tamarillo tang, and a nice even finish. In some respects, it drinks better than it sounds, and curiously, has a bit of Xinomavro character about it (esoteric, I know). No shortage of personality.”
